SGOU Admission 2026–27 Is Open — Here Is Everything You Need to Know

Have you ever wished you could get a degree — but couldn't because of your job, your family, money, or just because life got too busy?
You are not alone. There are lakhs of people in Kerala who passed their Plus Two but never got the chance to continue their education. Some had to start working early. Some missed the college entrance cut-off by a few marks. Some got married young. Some just didn't know there was another way.
There is another way. It is called SGOU — and admissions are open right now.

So, What Exactly is SGOU?
SGOU stands for Sree Narayana Guru Open University. It is a university started by the Kerala Government in 2020, named after the great reformer who fought his whole life so that every person — no matter how rich or poor — could access education.
This university is different from a regular college in one very important way: you do not have to go there every day. You study from home, on your phone or laptop, at whatever time suits you. If you work a morning shift, you study in the evening. If you have children to take care of, you study when they sleep. There are no fixed class timings.
And the best part? The degree you get from SGOU is 100% real and recognised by the Government of India. It is approved by UGC — the body that approves all universities in India. So your SGOU degree is just as valid as a degree from any regular Kerala university. You can use it for government jobs, Kerala PSC, private jobs, and even to apply for a higher degree later.

Who Can Join?
To join a UG course — like BA, BCom, BCA, or BBA — you just need to have passed your Plus Two. That's it. It doesn't matter when you passed, whether it was last year or ten years ago. It doesn't matter how old you are. There is no age limit. And there is no entrance exam. No test, no interview, nothing.
To join a PG course like MA, MBA, or MCA, you need a degree — any degree from any recognised college.
That's all. Simple.

What Courses Can You Study?
BA — Bachelor of Arts, with subjects like English, Malayalam, Arabic, History, Economics, or Political Science. Great for those who want to become teachers, civil servants, or work in journalism and media.
BCom — Bachelor of Commerce, for students who want to work in finance, accounting, banks, or businesses.
BBA — Bachelor of Business Administration, for those who dream of running their own business or working in management.
BCA — Bachelor of Computer Applications, the stepping stone into IT and software at a fraction of the cost of an engineering college.
BSc Data Science — one of the newest and most exciting courses. Data science is one of the fastest-growing fields in the world right now.
MA — Master of Arts, for graduates who want to go deeper into subjects like English, Malayalam, History, or Economics.
MBA — Master of Business Administration, one of the most respected qualifications in the job market, now available fully online.
MCA — Master of Computer Applications, for IT professionals wanting to move into senior technical or management roles.

Admissions Are Open — Apply Soon
The July 2026 session is open right now. After this, the next chance to join will be the January 2027 session.
Don't wait. The online portal gets very busy near the deadline, and technical issues can delay your submission. The earlier you apply, the smoother the process.

How Do You Apply?
The entire application is done online at sgou.ac.in. You do not go to any office. You do not send papers by post.
Before you open the website, you need to create two things — an ABC ID and a DEB ID. These are new requirements introduced by the central government for all distance education admissions. They are free to create and take only a few minutes on government websites.
After that, register on sgou.ac.in, choose your course, fill in your details, upload your documents, pay a small application fee, and submit. The whole thing can be done in under an hour if your documents are ready.

What Documents Do You Need?
Keep these ready as scanned images or PDFs before you sit down to fill the form — your Class 10 mark sheet, your Plus Two mark sheet and certificate, a Transfer Certificate from your last school or college, your Aadhaar card, a recent passport-size photo, and your ABC ID and DEB ID. PG applicants will also need their degree mark sheets and certificate. SC, ST, and OBC applicants should have their community certificate ready.

Are There Scholarships?
Yes. Even though SGOU is already very affordable, government scholarships are available on top of that.
If your Plus Two marks are good and your family income is below a certain level, you may qualify for the PM Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan scholarship — a central government scheme that gives substantial financial support. PG students under 30 can apply for a UGC scholarship that provides monthly financial assistance. SC and ST students from Kerala have access to state government scholarships as well.
All these are applied for at scholarships.gov.in after your admission is confirmed.

Still Have Questions?
I passed Plus Two 8 years ago. Can I still apply?
Yes. There is no time limit. If you passed Plus Two, you can apply today.
I already have a job. Will I be able to manage?
Yes. All lectures are recorded. You study whenever you are free. There are no daily classes.
Is this degree accepted in the government sector?
Yes. SGOU is a UGC-recognised state university. Its degrees are accepted everywhere — government jobs, PSC, banks, private companies, and for higher studies.
